Are you looking to improve your ride with one of the best bike computers?

The right one can give you loads of valuable information and I’ll show you what to consider when making your selection – you’ll see my top picks for 2017 too.

Sound good?

How To Pick The Perfect Bike Computer

There’s a few important things to know before making your purchase and they are:

  • What type of biker are you
  • What type of data would you like to receive
  • Smaller features (battery life, screen, weatherproofing)

First off, you need to identify the kind of rider you are. Some people like to bike every once in while and might only be interested in speed and distance. Serious cyclists may want more information like heart rate and a complete GPS system to map out their trip.

Next, you need to dive deeper into the features. Like I mentioned more serious and competitive athletes will want/need more information. A high end bike computer will give you a detailed analysis of your ride. This will include speed at certain parts of your trip, heart rate, cadence and will allow you to share this information with friends.

Another high end feature is a bike map. This is perfect for people who like to explore new areas – it’ll prevent you from getting lost and putting yourself in danger.

Lastly, you need to consider all the smaller aspects of the product you want. Things like battery life, wireless or wired, GPS or no GPS, screen readability, touchscreen or not, etc.

There’s plenty of different pieces of equipment listed here for all types of bikers – there’s more basic models for hobbyists and higher end models for serious riders. Let’s take a look at my top picks now.
